Facilities and equipments

CEREGE is the main partner and supports high-level research in the fields of surface geosciences, Quaternary geochronology, active tectonics, paleoclimatology and environmental geochemistry. Most of the analytical platforms for OSL and TCN dating needed to conduct the project are already available at CEREGE or at the University of Bern.

Luminescence dating

OSL dating laboratory - CEREGE

With the support of the “TS Equipement” INSU, CEREGE hosts a multi-grain
luminescence reader (Lexsygsmart from Freiberg instruments. Laboratory facilities for the routine chemical sample preparation for luminescence samples are also available.

Cosmogenic nuclides dating

ASTER laboratory - CEREGE

The “Laboratoire National des Nucléides Cosmogéniques” (LN2C) at CEREGE is one of the leading institutions worldwide regarding the development of the cosmogenic nuclides systematics and applications. The leading position of CEREGE has recently been consolidated by an Accelerator Mass Spectrometry (AMS) facility (ASTER), inaugurated in 2006 (See Figure A1). LN2C also houses state-of-the-art laboratory facilities for the routine chemical sample preparation for 36Cl, 10Be and 26Al measurements, used for a large variety of applications in Earth Sciences.
